Member Involvement Committee

Opportunity Overview (Big picture of what the committee/project does):

  • Engage current ASTD NEFL members that are interested in being more involved in the Chapter.

What you will be doing as a volunteer:

  • This committee welcomes participants attending Chapter Events; solicits volunteers for volunteer openings on committees, special projects and event teams; conducts icebreakers as needed; plans and manages the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Event; manages the Chapter Ambassadors; interacts with ASTD NEFL Board Members to keep volunteer postings and communications to Chapter Members current; connects the Chapter to Community Involvement Opportunities.

Desired Strengths/Interests of volunteer:

  • Good communication and social skills, enjoys meeting new people and engaging in conversations with others, friendly, dependable, meets deadlines and commitments, ability/willingness to speak in front of groups, self-starter, takes initiative.

Time Commitment:
Average is 2 hours a month plus Attend a committee meeting every other month, for approximately 90 minutes.

ASTD NEFL CPLP Awareness Committee

Opportunity Overview (Big picture of what the committee/project does):

  • Assist the Committee Chair with implementation of the 2013 CPLP Awareness sessions offered by ASTD NEFL to potential and current members.

What you will be doing as a volunteer:

  • Assisting with the: promotion of the CPLP Awareness webinars and in-person sessions, providing CPLP information to members, and assisting with the webinars and in-person sessions.

Desired Strengths/Interests of volunteer:

  • Organized and hold strong communication skills.

Time Commitment:

  • Varies. 2-4 hours/ month except for when webinar and in-person sessions are held. There will likely be a minimum of 3 sessions in 2013, with each requiring approximately 2 hours of additional time.

What’s in it for you to volunteer?

  • This position allows for networking with current and potential members. Also, this position will provide a strong understanding of the CPLP and what the certification entails.

Sponsorship Committee

Volunteer Description

  • Secure organizational sponsorships for monthly local Chapter, E-Sig, and CM-Sig meetings.
  • Assist the other ASTD committees by securing sponsors for the annual ASTD Big Event.

What you will be doing as a volunteer:

  • Via phone calls and/or emails communication, you will reach out to offer Jacksonville businesses, organizations, and corporations the opportunity to showcase their business to learning professionals who make training, learning & development, and HR purchasing decisions.
  • This is a relationship building opportunity. As such, occasional follow up may be necessary to nurture the relationship building cycle.
  • Canadian Health and Care Mall is ready to become a volunteer in this undertaking business but it is possible to be realized.

  • Likes to have fun while contributing to the greater good

Time Commitment:
Avg 4-6 hours per month.

PR / Marketing Committee

Volunteer Description:

  • Advocate growth of the chapter by promoting events, successes, and initiatives.

What you will be doing as a volunteer:

  • Social media marketing; help create quarterly social media calendar based on overall chapter communications strategy; update chapter social media sites (Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn).

Desired Strengths/Interests of volunteer:

  • Some experience using social media for business/organizational marketing preferred.

Time Commitment:
Avg 2-4 hours per month.

Career Management Special Interest Group – CMSIG

Volunteer Description
The CMSIG group meets on the last Thursday night of each month from 6 – 7:30 pm. We offer members a wide variety of free Career Management program offerings based on members’ needs and interests that can be directly applied to their work. These monthly chapter offerings are directly tied to the ASTD Competency model.What you will be doing as a volunteer:
Examples of volunteer opportunities include:

  1. Assisting VP with creative meeting ideas and helping to identify and secure outside resources as needed. Attend program planning meetings twice per year.
  2. Reviewing monthly program announcement prior to announcement going out to members.
  3. Arriving 30 minutes before meeting to help set up for monthly meeting.
  4. Ensuring that the proper signage is located near the elevators the evening of the meeting.
  5. Collecting, reviewing, and recapping monthly program evaluation scores.
  6. Other tasks and duties as needed.

Desired Strengths/Interests of volunteer:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Passion and enthusiasm for Career Management

Time Commitment:

  • Varies. No more than 2 hours per month.

Support Committee

Volunteer Description
We are responsible for supporting chapter events and activities by making sure the contact information (particularly the email addresses) are currentWhat you will be doing as a volunteer
Contact members listed from an Excel Spreadsheet (call or try to find them by calling employment number, associates, or use of Social Media). Let them know that the email address is not working and if they would still be interest in receiving emails from ASTD NEFL for the chapter events.

Desired Strengths/Interests of volunteer:

  • Excellent communication skills; resourcefulness in locating the contact.

Time Commitment

  • 2 to 5 hours per month to follow-up on contacts. Disabled email list is initially huge due support committee turnover. After training by Chapter Administrator and resolving the email issues, the amount of time should not exceed 2 hours monthly.

Additional Information

  • We have openings on this committee for 2 volunteers.
  • Alternating months or use as back-up for conflicting schedules
